Mary Watson
In the 1970's a fascinating book about Topcliffe and its characters was written by Mary Watson.
I visited this great old lady now in her 90's and still living in Asenby a while ago. She told me about the research that had gone into the book. She gave me a copy of her later book “The Children Of Thorntree Farm” and granted permission for them both to be used on the Topcliffe website.
The Topcliffe history book is a 60 page A5 paperback, printed in Thirsk by CB press of Castlegarth, its well worth picking up if you see a second hand copy anywhere.
